This book has 33 Chapters, each one about a financial statement fraud written by the Certified Fraud Examiner who cracked the case wide open. The book is written from the fraud examiner's / auditor's / investigator's perspective, so you get to walk in their shoes as they solve the accounting fraud case. Needless to say many of these fraud schemes are quite clever and the CFE's working the case hit dead ends and blind paths before figuring out the cases. White collar frauds are so simple in the rear-view mirror, however, the camouflage and concealment is often quite complex, and diligent fraud examiners need to be persistent and equally clever to bring these accounting fraudsters to justice. In the book you'll see how fraud examiners have to wade through the haystack looking for the needle, but when they find it, the chapters becomes exciting as they close in on their unsuspecting fraudster(s). This book is highly recommended for accounting students studying auditing since it will make them aware of how some of your audit clients might not be on the up and up. Experienced Fraud Examiners and Forensic Accountants will get the most out of this book since it's 100% focused on accounting frauds. The quality of the writing varies depending upon which CFE is writing the chapter, but overall the quality of the writing is good albeit oftentimes technical so accounting students might not understand all of the material since they lack real world work experience. The editing is first-rate so the book flows well and none of the chapters are poorly written although a couple are only mediocre but most are well written and a few of them are outstanding and read like they were written by an experienced fiction novelist. If you enjoy reading about accounting frauds this book is for you! Anyone in the auditing profession can be fooled, but if you read enough good books like this one on how to detect accounting fraud then your chances of being fooled will be greatly reduced.
